Volunteers
Were it not for the generosity of volunteers, the Byron Forest Preserve District simply could not offer nor maintain its many great and respected facilities, programs, classes and events. In fact, since 1995, volunteers have donated over 50,000 hours to the District . . . saving the District well over $300,000!
Volunteer opportunities are numerous and varied, and exist throughout the BFPD organization, and include:
  • beekeeping
  • maintaining bluebird houses
  • filling golf divots
  • gift shop assistance
  • harvesting seeds
  • prairie restoration
  • teaching
  • craft making
  • woodshop projects
  • conducting guided nature walks
  • assisting in events/programs
  • work concessions at Kid's Concerts
  • greeting visitors
The Byron Forest Preserve District has many projects and special events that would greatly benefit from your assistance, expertise, knowledge and volunteer time. For more information regarding volunteer opportunities, please call 234-8535, extension 203 . . . we look forward to hearing from you!

Tuesday Morning Volunteer Group
Come join us on the first Tuesday of each month, September through April, from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., for a time of visiting, refreshments, and fun indoor projects. Coffee and donuts are served (free!) and all ages are welcome!

Wednesday Woodshop Group
Come join the area men for coffee, and the opportunity to use your skills in carpentry and woodworking.  They meet at the Woodshop located in the Maintenance area.  New woodshop volunteers should check in at the Jarrett Prairie Center before going to the woodshop.
