Located within the Jarrett Prairie Center, the Natural History Museum is a must-visit for anyone interested in learning about Illinois' settlement and its once-vast prairie. Mounts of elk, bison, bear, fox, deer, birds and more help to explain how life once was on the Illlinois prairie, before the arrival of European settlers.
Large aquariums are home to native snakes and turtles, and don't miss the live, behind glass, honeybee hive . . . watch the bees at work making honey, tending to their hive, caring for their queen and her unending brood. You can also crawl around and through a wolf's den. Museum hours are as follows: Monday, Wednesday, Friday - 8 am - 4:30 pm Tuesday & Thursday - 8 am - 8 pm Saturday - 9 am - 4 pm Sunday - 1 - 4 pm Group tours are also available. Please call 815-234-8535 ext. 200. |
