March 7 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Free Chicago historical actress Leslie Goddard will portray scientist and writer, Rachel Carson. In her groundbreaking book Silent Spring (1962), Rachel Carson warned the world about the environmental impact of chemical pesticides. In this living-history program, Carson shares stories about her love of nature, her passion for writing, her three books about ocean life and her work to awaken the world to the beauty and fragility of nature. Carson was not only an early environmental activist but was also a gifted writer whose words revealed the power of language to change how we view our place in the world.
